On
the night of March 17, 1991, Officer Sandy Robbins responded to
a call from an EMS unit. The EMS ambulance was responding to the
same call. As both units converged on an intersection with red lights
and sirens enabled, neither driver could tell that the lights flashing
from the surrounding buildings were from any other units but their
own. Both Sandys unit and the class III ambulance entered
the intersection precisely at the same time. Officer Robbins
unit was hit in the drivers side front door and was flipped
over several times. Both units were totaled. Officer Robbins was
Life Flighted to Herman Hospital where she was pronounced dead on
arrival from massive chest and head injuries.
