On Monday, February 2, 1987, Deputy Haskell McCoy was going home after attending firearms qualifications at the Sheriff’s Department range. As Deputy McCoy was traveling south in the 15000 block of the Eastex Freeway service road, his vehicle was struck head-on by a vehicle driving the wrong way. Both Deputy McCoy and the operator of the other vehicle were killed instantly. He was 64 years old.
