Officer Bobby L. James was killed in an automobile accident while involved in a vehicle chase of a suspect that had just murdered fellow Officer Ben E. Gerhart. Officer James’ vehicle was sideswiped during the chase causing the fatal accident. The suspect that had killed Officer Gerhart was later shot by the police.
