"K-9" Officer James Donald Harris had been flagged down by a citizen stating that two males in a cutlass had tried to run him down. Officer Harris located the vehicle in the 4900 block of Walker and ordered both males to place their hands on the hood of his car. The passenger, Robert Carrasco Flores, handed a 9mm handgun to the driver, Ricardo Aldape Guerra. Guerra then shot Officer Harris three times. A citizen was also shot and killed by Guerra as he and Flores fled the scene. Flores was found at the rear of 4911 Rusk. After seriously wounding Officer L.D. Trepagnier, Flores was shot and killed by police. Officer Harris was pronounced dead while en-route to Hermann Hospital. Recardo Aldape Guerra was convicted of Capital Murder and sentenced to death by lethal injection. His conviction was overturned and he was released from prison. Shortly after returning to Mexico, he died in an automobile accident.
