Officer Patrick Grun had been employed with the Village Police
Department, now known as the Memorial Villages Police Department, for a little over two years at the time of his death. Officer Grun was killed in the line of duty on January 6, 1987, while escorting a large mobile crane through the Houston area. Officer Grun was riding his police motorcycle and drove onto some loose gravel on the roadway. The loose gravel caused the motorcycle to skid under the tires of the crane. Officer Grun had previously worked for the Spring Valley Police Department and the City of Houston Park Police Department.
