On Tuesday, April 29, 2008, Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper James Scott Burns, 39, was shot to death after stopping a high speed chase suspect near Marshall in East Texas. Trooper Burns was a five year veteran of DPS and is survived by his wife Michaela and a five-month-old baby girl.
